Dog Obedience Classes are Open to all breeds.
K9 Training Center of Minnesota offers a wide variety of dog obedience classes that cover all phases of obedience, from puppy kindergarten to utility level, including Rally and Agility. We also offer a full line of retriever training courses that work on preparing you and your dog for the AKC Hunt tests. Over the last 10 years Cathy, our head Instructor, has helped thousands of people form a strong working bond with man’s best friend.

Puppy Kindergarten–is for puppies 9 week to 5 months old. This class works on socialization, problem solving and begins to introduce foundation obedience commands, such as come, sit, and down. Using positive training methods your puppy will learn to sit for petting, instead of jumping, as well as how to play without biting people. We will cover a variety of topics from nutrition, leadership, housebreaking, chewing, crate training, digging, barking, and much more. Puppy classes meet for 30 minutes. Basic Obedience –This class is for dogs 4 months and older. Here we work on basic obedience commands such as heel, sit, stay, stand, down, and a reliable recall. All training is done on leash. You will also receive help on handling any behavior problems your dog may be having. Course Schedule and Enrollment

Intermediate Obedience – This class will help to proof everything that you have learned in your basic classes.
You will be working toward better on-leash as well as advancing toward off-leash work. Course Schedule and Enrollment |
Novice Obedience– This class is for the dog/handler team that has done Basic and Intermediate Obedience and is interested in preparing to compete in AKC trials at the novice level. We will help you work on proofing the skills you have learned. You will work on both on and off leash heeling, figure 8, stand for exam, recall and long sit and down. (not just for competition dogs….for a well trained dog)

Open Level Obedience – This class is to help you and your partner work towards your CDX Title. We will also help you with any problems you are having. We will help take dog and handler and see what you can really do as a team.

Rally Obedience – Rally is a new dog sport, just AKC approved. This fun class teaches you and your dog to move through a timed course of signs. At each sign your dog must do an obedience behavior, once completed you move on to the next sign. The course is run against time, and is guaranteed to be a fun challenge for any dog/handler team. Agility Level 1 – This is an introductory level Agility Class. We will introduce your dog to all of the obstacles. A-Frame, Dog Walk, Open & Closed Tunnels, Teeter-totter, Tire, and Jumps. Your dog must have completed basic obedience, and you must have control off leash. Bring treats, a flat buckle collar, and leash the first night of class.

 Introduction to Retrieve – This class will work on basic retrieving work, using bumpers and retrieving dummies. We will work on delivery to hand as well a building your dogs natural desire to retrieve.

Handling to the Blind Retrieve -
This class will cover basic skills for lining and casting drills. Your dog will learn to stop to a whistle, cast left, right, and back. Course Schedule and Enrollment

Open Gym Night -
Need an indoor or outdoor place to train? Starting May 4th, Every Thursday from 6pm - 9pm, you can schedule time to use our facility to enhance your current obedience training sessions. Please call or email us to make an appointment. |
*Retrievers can begin in Puppy Kindergarten or Basic Obedience and then move on to our Retrievers class, followed by Teaching the Blind Retrieve, Junior and Senior Hunter Classes. |
